MISHKA: A Greenhouse Restaurant on the Kamchatka Peninsula
Surrounded by volcanoes on the shore of Lake Mikizha, the architectural bureau FANTALIS has created a true oasis within the grounds of the Laguna SPA Hotel. The team designed a contemporary restaurant that is seamlessly integrated into the natural environment.
Territory
The MISHKA restaurant is located on the grounds of the Laguna SPA Hotel—a project by the architectural bureau FANTALIS and one of the most renowned hotels on the Kamchatka Peninsula. The hotel's post-renovation increase in capacity presented the architects with a fresh objective: to design a venue capable of serving many guests simultaneously, all while offering them a scenic dining experience.
Searching for a site for a large restaurant, the architects chose a site within the complex offering incredible views of a volcano and a mountain lake.
The restaurant's panoramic windows fill the space with light and create a sense of transparency, making guests feel as if they are outdoors, immersed in the surrounding nature.
To maintain this atmosphere during daylight hours, even when direct sunlight no longer enters the windows, the designers created special light wells in the roof. These reflect sunlight and create a dynamic play of light within the interior. As night falls, the embedded light wells give the façade an extraordinary glow, unveiling a different, more dramatic dimension of the design.
Atmosphere
Restaurant Concept
Minimalistic geometric shapes and natural materials further enhance the restaurant's ambiance, reflecting the concept of eco-friendliness and connection with nature. The interior is also dominated by natural shades and textures typical of the Kamchatka region.
The design team wanted the restaurant to be a seamless continuation of the Kamchatka adventure—a place where the exhilaration of summiting a volcano could be savored and relived over a meal. It was crucial to ensure that diners never lose the feeling of being at the edge of the world, surrounded by volcanoes and boundless wilderness — even while enjoying a cozy dinner indoors.
With a seating capacity of 230, the restaurant attracts not only tourists exploring Kamchatka but has also become a local landmark, enjoying great popularity among the peninsula's residents.
