Bureaus working in Monchegorsk, Norilsk, Murmansk, Kamchatka, the village of Ola in the Magadan region, Saudi Arabia, and Derbent will share their unique experience of working in challenging climatic conditions.
We will discuss the demands shaped by extreme conditions and the challenges facing designers.

Designing an Extreme Hotel on the Kamchatka Peninsula

How the idea to create an extreme hotel at the edge of the earth came about, why Kamchatka specifically, and what difficulties the bureau encountered during design and implementation.

  1. Why Kamchatka specifically? What were the prerequisites for designing in this region? What is its appeal? Why deep in the taiga, accessible only by helicopter? Why are tourists willing to spend money to see this nature?
  2. What are the features of designing hotels deep in the taiga forests near volcanoes?
  3. What needs to be considered when designing a hotel in such places? (logistics, management, safety)
  4. How do the climate and terrain features dictate the choice of materials and structural solutions?
  5. How is the preservation of pristine nature ensured during project implementation?
