This year, the 15th anniversary award ceremony of Russia's leading prize for the best wooden architectural structure took place at the iconic Moscow cinema Khudozhestvenny. The best objects were selected in nine categories, with a total of over 65 architecture and design projects making it to the shortlist.
FANTALIS Architects submitted the Aurora Extreme Hotelproject on the Kamchatka Peninsula, which won first place in the "Wood in Interiors" category according to the public jury. The project was noted for its unique use of wooden elements and natural shades and textures in the interior, which harmonizes with the mysterious atmosphere of Kamchatka itself.
Located far from civilization, accessible only by helicopter, the hotel greets guests in the complete wilderness with haute cuisine, premium service, and luxurious interiors featuring elements of brutality and ethnicity, corresponding to the surrounding context.
"The Aurora Extreme Hotel is special to us because all design solutions were inspired by and entirely based on the surrounding Kamchatka landscape, which is itself unique and inimitable. In creating Aurora, we drew on the traditions of the local indigenous peoples, the Itelmens and Koryaks, as well as the practice of bridge building in Ancient Rus. And when choosing the location, we made sure the hotel was as far from civilization as possible—so that the visitor could experience the real Kamchatka," said Anna Kulikova, partner at FANTALIS Architects.
The Aurora Extreme Hotelproject was also noted by the strategic partner of ARCHIWOOD 2024—the company TEGOLA—as one of the best objects of the award.
