Laguna is one of the oldest family vacation resorts, popular among locals during Soviet times. Decades later, its infrastructure fell into disrepair, making Laguna unusable. The renovation project by FANTALIS Architects brought life back to Laguna, turning it into a point of attraction for tourists and locals alike.
The predecessor of the current Laguna SPA center, located in the village of Paratunka, was a Soviet holiday camp with 52 rooms, as well as an Aqua Center loved by both locals and tourists. Despite the hotel's ideal territorial location for tourism (it lies on the way to the volcanoes), Kamchatka is still a seasonal travel destination, so the flow of tourists can greatly increase or decrease in different months.
The project's authors faced an important task—to create a multifunctional complex that would attract the local population from the neighboring cities of Yelizovo and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky even during unpopular periods.
The hotel is in a good location, from which one can easily reach and see Kamchatka's main natural attractions—tourists come precisely for this and spend less time at the hotel. Nevertheless, the project takes into account the natural features of the territory, and panoramic views of the mountain lake and volcano have allowed creating their own points of attraction within the hotel.
The Aqua Center on the Laguna grounds has a large outdoor pool with thermal water. This is the SPA hotel facility that generates the most interest among tourists and locals. The architects redeveloped the complex, built in Soviet times by Icelandic specialists, making it modern and comfortable to use.
To relaunch the SPA hotel, global work was required: major repairs to the Aqua Center building and two Laguna hotel buildings, creating a restaurant, placing a glamping site, implementing modern management systems, rebranding the project, and landscaping the territory.
After the major renovation, guests of the Aqua Center began spending more time there: besides the pool, visitors can now use a full-fledged restaurant with a terrace seating 100. Work on the Aqua Center continues; final changes and renovations will be implemented in the fall.
On the Laguna grounds, barbecue areas with canopies have been organized where hotel guests can spend time together, socialize, and cook food. During project implementation, the coastal zone was improved, navigation around the Laguna territory was updated, and the number of parking spaces was increased.
The Laguna SPA Hotel is part of a development project for tourism in the Kamchatka region, and one of the large-scale projects implemented by FANTALIS Group. In addition to the main buildings, the hotel grounds feature unconventional architectural projects: Forest guest houses, "Glazastik," Grey House, and "Idealny Kub". Each typology is a unique architectural solution, developed considering the demands of different guest audiences.
A feature of the Forest guest house is the window overlooking the birch grove. Houses of this type are located on the edge of the site, making them popular with younger guests who aren't bothered by the slight distance from the restaurant.
"Glazastik", a studio with a double bed and an extra sleeping place, is an option for families with young children.
Grey House—a project with two bedrooms and a living room: it can be rented as a whole house or each room individually, as each room has its own bathroom and balcony.
"Idealny Kub", thanks to its shape and panoramic window, lets in plenty of natural light and offers the chance to enjoy the natural landscape—ideal for those seeking solitude with Kamchatka: the "Kub" has its own private area and a pier on the lake, as well as a plunge pool with water from a thermal spring.
Today, Laguna is one of the most popular resorts in Kamchatka Krai, noticeably distinguished by the quality of its territory and services: since opening after reconstruction, the hotel has already welcomed over 122,000 visitors. Thanks to FANTALIS, life has been brought back to the historic resort; it has become profitable and economically sustainable even in the off-season: not only do many guests come to relax at the hotel, but locals also use the hotel's services year-round.
