ARCH Moscow is a major event in the field of architecture and design, held annually since 1995 in Moscow. Until 2018, the exhibition took place at the Central House of Artists on Krymsky Val, after which it moved to Gostiny Dvor (4 Ilyinka Street).
This year, the exhibition-forum took place from May 22 to 25 at Gostiny Dvor. The project authors and long-term curators of the exhibition are Vasily Bychkov, founder and general director of Expo-Park; Bart Goldhoorn, architect and architectural critic; and Ilya Mukosey, architect and founder of the Mukosey bureau. The event features seminars and master classes, lectures, and professional discussions dedicated to contemporary trends in Russian and global architecture, urban planning, and urban environment improvement. Participants and visitors can explore innovative projects, discuss current industry trends, and find business partners and clients. ARCH Moscow is a platform for exchanging experience and ideas among professionals in the construction and design industries.
Behind the ARCH Moscow festival, there has always been a curatorial poetics—a main theme debated by all forum participants. For the last two years, they have been studying the Vitruvian triad "Firmness, Commodity, Delight." Two points—delight and firmness—have already been reflected upon, but they haven't been able to tackle the third. Before thinking about commodity, one must assess the prospects. In this article, we share with you some of the most vivid impressions from the exhibition, prepared jointly with the agency Plan The Best.
FANTALIS Bureau—architects creating projects in Kamchatka, received the exhibition's 1st prize for their creative approach to designing ethnic resorts. They presented not only artistic photos of their projects (Aurora Extreme Hotel, Laguna SPA Hotel, MISHKA Restaurant, VILLAGE hotel apartments, etc.), but also a meticulously detailed model of the Aurora Extreme Hotel, which opened in Kamchatka quite recently. They gave all visitors to their pavilion a souvenir keychain with black volcanic sand.
ARCH Moscow, already established in its independence and authority, has acquired new features—respectability, status, and scope. Over the years of its existence, the festival has truly become a "Mecca" for all people associated with the architectural community.
